Today’s search of the USPTO’s TESS database shows that the most recent day for which trademark applications for Tennessee businesses have been entered into the database was last Wednesday, July 7.
On July 7, there were 31 trademark applications filed by Tennessee businesses.
The most applications came from Nashville with 9 applications. Memphis was second with 5 applications. The remaining 17 trademark applications from businesses in Tennessee were as follows:
- Chattanooga – 3
- Knoxville – 2
- Brentwood – 2
- Columbia – 2
- Whites Creek – 1
- Franklin – 1
- Erwin – 1
- Atoka -1
- Bartlett – 1
- Lenoir City – 1
- Rock Island – 1
- Joelton – 1
The most interesting applications Tennessee trademark applications of the day were 4 separate trademark applications filed by Trisha Yearwood Enterprises LLC, all for the trademark “TY Dottie’s Yard.” Two of these trademark applications were for a design mark in Classes 35 and 36, and the remaining two applications were for standard character marks in the same Classes 35 and 36.
What one can learn from this set of trademark filings is that if you are an entrepreneur or small business owner seeking to protect a logo or design mark that includes wording, you should consider filing separate applications for both the design mark AND the standard character or word mark.
