On August 19, there were a total of 19 trademark applications filed in the USPTO by Tennessee applicants.
Here’s the breakdown by where those applicants are:
- Nashville is again the winner as the place of business for most applicants with a total of 4 trademark applications
- Memphis and Knoxville come in a close second, sharing the silver medal, with a total of 3 trademark applications each
- And in 4th place with two trademark applications is Shelbyville
- All of the rest of the cities and towns have 1 trademark application each. These include Franklin, LaVergne, Johnson City, Sevierville, Loudon, Clinton, and Chattanooga.
My favorite trademark filing of the day goes to the City of Johnson City, which filed a trademark application for a design mark with the the words in the design “DOWNTOWN JOHNSON CITY.”
This trademark filing is in several different classes and covers a number of different goods and services, including reusable shopping bags; insulated sleeve holders for beverage cups, bottles and cans; T shirts; flying discs; and promoting tourism in Johnson City.
I love Johnson City. It is a great place to visit and to live. My daughter is in her last year of medical school at the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, and over the past several years, Johnson City has become one of very favorite places to visit. The downtown is cool and attractive. The mountains surrounding the town are awesome. JC is a great city to spend some time.
So, hat’s off to Johnson City for their trademark filing this past week. I want one of those “DOWNTOWN JOHNSON CITY” T shirts.
